Looking for an an African adventure? This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, creative and enthusiastic individual with Primary teaching qualifications and experience in creative learning through play. This unique teaching opportunity is for someone to teach two UK Grade 2 students, together with 8 local island kids of similar ages.  The successful applicant must be independent, resourceful and self reliant as the opportunity is based on an idyllic but remote island in Lake Malawi, the third largest  lake in Africa.

The successful applicant is expected to teach  children full time. The work week is 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday. Mornings are focues on academic curriculum and afternoons are focused on cart, drama, sport and adventure. Saturdays are spent lesson planning. The teacher's personality is as important as teaching qualifications.  Self sufficiency and awareness, practicality, flexibility and an ability to help out in a number of situations including interacting with local staff and foreign visitors, as well as teaching the children, are paramount to your enjoyment of the location and success in the role.

A UK certified teacher with knowledge of the British curriculum is strongly preferred. We're looking for the right individual who will adapt to this unique environment - gender, age and qualifications are flexible for that perfect candidate. Health and physical fitness are essential prerequesites. Previous experience working/living in remote locations in Africa or elsewhere is a strong asset for the role. Social life here is limited, it is a sleepy island with very few bars and restaurants. However, there are regular backpackers passing through the Mango Drift lodge and the local islanders are some of the friendliest people in the world.

The teacher will live in a beach chalet at Mango Drift backpackers (www.mangodrift.com) just steps away from the lake and a 10 min walk to the classroom.  This is very much a lifestyle opportunity and there are many water sports available at no charge such as scuba diving (PADI courses) waterskiing, wake boarding, kite surfing, sailing, snorkelling, paddle boarding etc.

This is a fabulous and rewarding opportunity available in early 2016, 10 months minimum.  The position starts in mid January, 2016 and lasts until December 2016. If you are interested in this potentially life changing opportunity - apply for this amazing teaching position.

Short listed candidates will be provided with references from individuals that have lived and worked here - this opportunity comes highly recommended - but will only work for an individual with the right attitude and qualificiations.
