Apostilles in Australia 

An Australian public document can be "legalised" by an Apostille making it much easier to use internationally. An Apostille Certificate provide conclusively that an Australian public document is authentic and genuine.

 

Authentications and Apostille stamps are provided by each State Office Department of Foreign Affairs. There are also private companies that offer to do the service on your behalf but you'd just be wasting your money as all you have to do it courier it or walk it into a State Office, same thing you would have to do with the private company only you're bypassing the middleman.

The Apostille Australia Certificate Service offers apostille certification services for $200AUD - if you do it yourself it will only cost you $60AUD.

What do I have to do?

First, collect the required documents that need authentication...

• in the case of Korean teaching visas, only a criminal background check is required to be authenticated.

Next, bring that ORIGINAL document to the Apostille of that State. If it is not possible to go in-person, you can courier your documents to the office with a money order, credit card payment (form required from website), or with a cheque (3 day wait for the cheque to clear).

You can also request a credit card authorisation form by e-mail (they also take Visa, MasterCard or Bankcard). Email addresses for the State Offices are listed below.

They will process the document and send it back to you. The cost of returning your document by ordinary post is included in the fee. Please include a self-addressed Registered or Express Post envelope if you wish your document to be returned to you via either of these methods. Please bear in mind that the issuing of documents takes 2-3 days, in line with other State Offices.

If you are overseas please include extra payment for return of your documents by EMS Courier:

• $27.00 for New Zealand
• $31.05 for Asia Pacific Region
• $33.75 for USA/Canada/Middle East
• $35.55 for the Rest of the World

All payment must be in Australian dollars - you must include a contact telephone number and e-mail address.
