Recognized Teaching Experience For Teachers
Public school teaching experience overseas is an amazing opportunity to add international experience to your teaching portfolio and to gain invaluable experience and lessons that will enrich your life and subsequently your classroom.
The growth of the LED (limited English development) population in classrooms worldwide has been exponential in the last decade. Whether you teach in Canada, the US, Australia or the UK, a great many public schools have dramatically increased their international student population.
As a result of the increases in international students in public schools, school boards and principals are looking for teachers that have experience teaching ESL and or exposure and understanding of other cultures.
Footprints works with Ministries of Education and public schools to offer great teaching opportunities in a number of countries.
IMPORTANT - The demand for English teachers is so great that local governments are accepting teachers will little or no experience. Check with a Footprints representative to see if you can be considered.
Description of Teaching Opportunities in Public Schools
Requirements to Teach in a Public School
- depends on country
- bachelor's degree in education
- some teaching experience
- native English speaker
In many cases you will be team teaching when teaching in a public school job. This means that you will do your lesson planning with a local co-teacher and often that teacher will teach grammar and writing and you will be required to focus on communicability and pronunciation.
Often class sizes range from 25-50 students per class. These are more challenging than teaching in private language school classrooms where the number of students per class range typically from 1-15.

“I loved my teaching experience through Footprints and would highly recommend the process to anyone. Footprints really works hard to screen for the best, most reputable schools and you can always feel safe accepting a position through them.”
