The following teaching requirements apply to teach in Thailand:
- Category # 1 -A foreign Teacher with a Bachelor of Education degree-is required to take a 20 hour Thai culturalization course-( 3 Days) -during their teaching contract year, in order to have a work permit to teach in Thailand. As there is a very short supply of Bachelor of Education teachers available worldwide the next category is the significant category.
- Category # 2 -A Foreign Teacher with any other degree than a Bachelor of Education degree ( Bachelor of Arts, Science, English etc-or Masters in Arts, Science-etc.) will be required to either:
- pass an exam on several aspects of education ( nearly impossible without Education Courses)or
- complete a prescribed set of education courses through an approved Thai University
If the foreign person is employed teaching while completing the courses they will have to take night and weekend courses. The courses take approximately one year to complete.
The cost for the courses is 60,000 baht.
Upon completion the teacher will have earned the right to apply for a teaching license in Thailand and consequently, will then have the right to apply for a working permit to teach in Thailand.
The intent of these new regulations are admirable-to upgrade the quality of all teachers in Thailand, Foreign and Thai.
The problem is that this teaching license and these teaching credits are only valuable in Thailand.
These new regulations have been under development in Thailand for the past two years and these type of education credentials may become the required minimum in other countries. Footprints has identified a solution.
