Teaching Visas to Teach English Abroad
Getting a visa to teach English overseas does NOT mean you are getting something like a credit card... you would be surprised... we have actually had this asked by several candidates we didn't represent. :)
Follow the links from this page to get a comprehensive quick reference for where you will need to go to get your Teaching Visa processed.
DEFINITIONS:
- Embassy: where you go if there's trouble when you are in a foreign country. This is the main office or central point where work is accomplished and directives are given from the various ministries and goverment offices.
- Consulate General: VISAS SECTION this is usually where you have to go to get your visa. If you are in a city where there is an Embassy there will also be a consular division (typically in the Embassy). This is where you will be expected to go. In many cases there will be ONE embassy in a country but several consulates.
In many cases, although these are two separate offices they are often in the same building BUT NOT ALWAYS. In Vancouver the Chinese Embassy is on Granville while the Chinese Consulate-General is on West Broadway.
Please let us know if an office changes location or if you feel more information could be provided that would make finding or contacting the office easier.
Check the links at the top of the page to find where you need to go. Note that "Apostilles" are government agents that authenticate public documents. They will authenticate criminal background checks, education documents, marriage certificates, birth certificates and so forth. In many cases apostille authentication is required on your documents before you send them to the consulate or to the school for processing. Please follow the steps outlined for your nationality for the country you are going to teach.
