    Testimonials from Meten Teachers:

Testimonial from Phillip (teacher in Ningbo city)

"If you're thinking of starting a career teaching English in China, go for it! Moving to a new country to work and live isn't always easy but it is always rewarding. If you are flexible and have a sense of adventure this is one of the best possible careers.

Some people say that Chinese is one of the most difficult languages to learn. Which is only true if you include reading and writing. Learning to speak basic Chinese is very manageable. Meten offers free online training courses in Chinese and you will find that your coworkers and students are always willing to help you learn Chinese! When I came to China I only knew three words of Chinese; hello, thank you and yeah. It takes a lot of pointing and using a translation app at first but it's not hard to survive your first few months.

If you're worried about your ability to be a teacher let me tell you this; you have more than 20 years experience in the subject you are teaching. You might need to brush up on grammar, but you're already an expert in the field.

One of the best parts of this job is there is a lot of room to be creative. Meten provides you with some great lesson plans but if you are excited about a subject and want to go above and beyond teaching it no one will stop you.

One huge perk is getting paid Chinese holidays. You will have a big chunk of time off for Chinese spring festival and a number of three day weekends. And China's high speed railroads make traveling to new city in your time off an affordable and painless experience.

I had looked into teaching China a number of times before I finally pulled the trigger and I wish hadn't waited so long. Overall if you want to experience living in a new country with a very different culture while living comfortably working for Meten is a great way to do it."

Testimonial from Symone (teacher in Guangzhou city)

"Life in Meten is pretty relaxed yet always eventful. The atmosphere can be truly inspiring, everyone wants to better themselves. Not only the students and their willingness to keep speaking in English, but also the staff and the other teachers. Through training, workshops and observations, everyone is working hard to become a better teacher. Yet you gain skills not only related to teaching, but those essential for the job market. Teachers are making remarkable improvement in public speaking, problem solving, creativity and even confidence. After living and working here for even a year… the sky’s the limit! Meten are also incredibly helpful in your adjustment period. They offer help with visas, accommodation, sick leave and even finding the best sushi restaurant in the city. It’s an interactive working environment for you to form lasting working relationships. Although each class coincides with a set curriculum, there is plenty of opportunity to be more creative, we all have our different styles and different approaches to teaching, which Meten eagerly encourages.

I came to Meten fresh out of university with minimum teaching experience and a tefl certificate to fall back on. They provide more than adequate training before you begin your first class, usually with other new and like-minded teachers. This training continues right until you decide to leave and consider your prospects somewhere else; they help to set you up for a future that goes beyond your Meten contract."

Testimonial from Nicholas (teacher in Guangzhou city)

"Life in China is very interesting. It's totally different from my life in New York because of the differences in food, culture, and lifestyle. Meten is professional and has a stable work environment.I love my coworkers who are all very friendly and accommodating. And I really love having students to teach and nurture."

Testimonial from Scott (teacher in Suzhou city)

"Becoming a teacher at Meten in Suzhou has probably been one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life, in my short time here, I’ve taught hundreds of eager students had some fantastic experiences and made lifelong friends.

It all started on my birthday in October 2016, when I said goodbye to my family and friends in England and set off on the long trip to China – 14 hours by plane – but it was worth the long trip, when I arrived I was taken straight to my hotel and allowed to rest after my grueling trip, before being shown around my school a few days later, where I met many of the colleagues I know consider great friends, for the first time.

After a few days exploring some of Suzhou’s many beautiful gardens and temples and gorging myself on dozens of new dishes, my training began…in Wuhan.

The training was a fantastic experience to try many different teaching methods, learn more about Chinese culture and most of all try more food!

There I met many new foreign teachers, both young and old, eager to kick start their new life in China.

I have been in Suzhou for 8 months now and I still love every day, I have a strong circle of friends, there is always something new to explore and the food here is second to none, so I hope and plan to stay in Suzhou for many years to come."
