Kaohsiung is located in southern Taiwan and with a population around 1.5 million, is the second largest city in Taiwan. The streets of Kaohsiung are wide and less congested than Taipei. There are beaches, national parks and mountains all close enough for day trips. The climate is tropical, as it is located in the Tropic of Cancer.
The Love River is one of the main attractions is downtown Kaohsiung, flowing from northeast to southwest. It has existed for more than 100 years and is considered the spine of the city.
In 2009, Kaohsiung will host the World Games.
