No Limits - A Year or a Career

E-mail

Hello, I am a certified teacher originally from Toronto, Ontario. After graduating from teachers college I had a lot of trouble finding a job. I substitute taught for a little while but then I decided to go back to school and pursue a Masters degree in Developmental Psychology.

After graduating, I knew I wanted to travel but at the same time I needed to make money. I also wanted a change of scenery and was longing to meet new people and see new things. At that point, I decided I should seek a job overseas. I did some research and contacted Footprints. They got in touch with me very quickly and I expressed to them what I was looking for.

The whole process was very organized and efficient. I was very worried about what would happen when I would reach the airport, but Footprints has a lot of qualified staff in every department doing their best. I have been here for a total of seven months and can say that it has been a lot less stressful than teaching in Toronto. My co-workers and students have been a delight to work with. Not only do they learn from me, but I am constantly learning something new from them. I have not travelled extensively within Korea but what I have seen so far has been breathtaking and very soulful from the Buddhist temples to the scenic mountains.

I fit in very comfortably with this culture and never really experienced a "culture shock". The food is very flavourful and healthy. The cost of living is pretty low and Daegu is fairly easy to navigate since it has a state of the art subway system. Of course, it is not as clean as Canada and not every single thing is available here that you can get there, but I think that’s part of the experience. You either complain or embrace it; -I choose to do the latter. It’s what you make of the experience.

I have felt like a superstar here because of the energetic greetings I get when I see the kids I teach! I can go on and on, but in a nutshell, Korea has been the wisest decision I have made for myself. Remember-there are no limits.
