Requirements To Teach English Abroad
First things first, the requirements to teach abroad vary from country to country but for the most part, most countries are moving toward requiring all people to have a university degree in any discipline.
Important to note, Footprints does not impose this requirement, this is a required condition to meet eligibility requirements for visas in the country you are wishing to teach.
Visas to teach English are often in their own category in countries where ESL is in high demand. In Korea for example, teaching visas are called E2 Visas where in China they are called Z-Visas with Foreign Expert Certificates. In order to qualify for visas of this nature, one of the requisites is a 3 or 4 year bachelor's degree as a minimum.
There are some countries where this is not a requirement, we do not work in any of these countries at the present time. Please check job portals like www.eslrecruiter.com or www.teach-english-overseas.com for possible information.
Here is a list of the current requirements to teach abroad with Footprints
- you must be a native English speaker
- if you are not a native English speaker but are fluent in the language this will still not allow you to get a teaching visa
- you must have a passport from one of these countries:
- Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK or the USA
- a bachelor's degree in any discipline
- a valid passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining
The most critical skills to have are an open mind, a sense of humor, and flexibility.
