Here is a list of the most used acronyms in the ESL (English as a Second Language), EFL (English as a Foreign Language) industry: 

 

CELTA   Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults
CPE  Certificate of Proficiency in English - an exam requested by British universities for admittance - essentially the same of the TOEFL.
DELTADiploma in English Language Teaching to Adults
EAP English for Academic Purposes
EFL

English as a Foreign Language - commonly used when referring to the teaching of English in a non-English speaking country.

ELI

English Language Instructor

ELT

English Language Teacher or English Language Training or English Language Trainer

EOP

English for Occupational Purposes

ESL

English as a Second Language - teaching of English in an English speaking country.

ESOL

English to/for Speakers of Other Languages - this is becoming more fashionable because sometimes English is the third or forth language a person speaks.

Employer Relations - this is one of our acronyms... sorry

ESP

English for Special Purposes

English for Science and Technology

RSA

Royal Society Arts - the board/society that first started training people to teach English

RSA C-TEFLA

Certificate course that offers an introduction to teaching methodologies and lesson planning for English classes.

RSA D-TEFLADiploma course that offers more study of methodology and prepares one for teacher training. Usually you need the C-TEFLA before this is possible.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

TOEFL Test of English as a Foreign Language - measures fluency and is a requirement for post-secondary entrance when English is not the student's first language.
TOEIC

Test of English for International Communication - standardized test many international companies use to determine proficiency of English. In many cases individuals in business in countries where English is not the primary language, this is used as a means to determine employability, raises and promotions.
