Opening a Bank Account in Japan

If you are going to be working in Japan you will most likely need to set up a bank account. Some employers will deposit straight into your account also it is much easier to have that done than to be trying to make it to a bank with in bank hours to deposit money.  In order to open an account you will need to visit a bank between 9am and 3pm.  Bring with you your alien registration card and one other form of  Japanese ID with your address on it.  A passport is not acceptable nor ID from home as it does not show your Japanese residence.  Also, you will be asked for your seal  (a handmade stamp which is unique and used as a signature in Japan).  I was able to sign documents without a seal, although it is much easier in the long run if you do have one.
