Sending Money Home from Chile

Sending money home from Chile is a relatively easy process, especially when you consider all the bureaucracy involved in getting your teaching visa and national medical and so forth.

  • Before you leave home, be sure and tell your bank and/or credit card company that you will be living abroad – your destination country – especially if you plan on using your debit and credit cards abroad. If you don’t, your bank security could become concerned and the foreign ABM may eat your card.
  • You will need the following information to wire money home to your bank:
    • The bank’s complete name
    • The bank’s swift code and routing number
    • The branch number and your account number.
    • You will also need your bank’s complete address including zip code or postal code and their phone number including area code
You can wire money home from the Bank of Chile or any major bank – there are fees for wiring money home – and these fees can vary from bank to bank. Bank fees are cheaper than Western Union. The same information is needed (swift code, etc) when wiring money at Western Union.
