North of the Caucusus

In Georgia, I teach students of various ages.   

Here is my grade 6,

And my grade 1 students who are having a special ceremony celebrating learing the Georgian alphabet (qartuli anbani) in this photograph.

Most of the country is south of the Caucuses mountains.  However, I am on the North side of the mountains and we get a good amount of snow here. This is a photo of the village in snow in April.

There are many open markets in the cities - when I say open I mean the animals are cut up and their meat parts are out in the open!  The photo shows is a regular meat market in an actual shop.

Below is a photo of a church. I have been learning some of the history.  This church site is where the capital of the country was when the queen was healed of her blindness by an early Christian, which resulted in Georgia adopting Christianity.  Also very close to this church is where the first king united these people to form the country around 400 BC.  This site is very important to the Georgian national identity.  It overlooks Mshketa church where Christ's coat is believed to be buried.
