Be a teacher trainer in Busan City!

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education – Teacher Training Institute

There is a brand new opportunity available with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education in one of their specialized educational programs. The Busan MOE is a government agency under the Ministry of Education in South Korea. They are in charge of the hiring and the daily operations of each and every public school in Busan city, as well as any of the specialized programs and training institutes in the city. As such, if hired by the Busan MOE, you would be working in a government job and considered a government employee, which means you have job stability and the job experience looks quite impressive on a resume.

The Busan MOE is currently looking to hire 1 teacher to work at their teacher training institute as a teacher trainer. This trainer would be training/teaching Korean teachers who are studying to become public school English teachers. As such, the teacher trainer would only be working with adult students. The teacher trainer would be helping the Korean teachers to strengthen their own English abilities in reading, writing and speaking. Additionally, the teacher trainer would teach these Korean teachers techniques on how to teach English to various age groups of students in the public schools.

Occasionally, the teacher trainer will also be asked to teach workshops for the foreign English teachers in the public schools in Busan. The Busan MOE hold orientations throughout the year for new teachers starting in their public schools and it is very helpful if these new teachers receive some training on teaching methods, ideas and activities that they could implement in their own classrooms.

There is a set curriculum in place at the training institute, so the teacher trainer would have a guide to follow for the lessons. With this said, of course there is room for adaptation of the lessons as the teacher trainer sees fit.

There is another foreign teacher trainer at this institute, so this person will be training the successful applicant in the curriculum.

This is an amazing chance for an experienced teacher to expand on his/her teaching repertoire and to share his/her teaching knowledge to upcoming public school teachers.

A Brand New Opportunity in Beautiful Busan - a specialized English program!

Busan City - Korea’s largest southern city is home to 3.5 million people. This city is one of the most popular cities amongst teachers. Being a coastal city, Busan has a very active port with fishing, cargo and passenger ferries taking people to Japan (just under 4 hours away by ferry) or some of the coastal islands in Korea. A great ex-pat community in Busan lends it self to an active nightlife scene and a host of universities in the city make it an ideal spot to get to know young Koreans eager to make foreign friends. You can always take time to relax on some of the beaches that Busan is famous for- Haeundae, Gwangali, or Dadaepo. Looking for mountains? Busan being right on the coast also has some very green and rocky mountains in the city- visit some of the beautiful temples snuggled in the valleys and hiking nearby.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education: The Magic English Bus Program

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is now looking for a brand new teacher to join one of their specialized English programs. The Busan MOE is in charge of hiring for all the public schools in Busan and for any specialized English programs that they run. The Busan MOE wants to emphasize the importance of learning English in a fun, hands-on environment, so they have several specialized programs that allow students to learn and practice their English skills beyond just the regular school day. Most notably, they have the English Library Program, the English Center Program and now the Magic English Bus Program.

The Magic English Bus Program is a year old program that was started last year in August. This program has 1 Korean English teacher that will manage this program and liaise between the foreign English teachers and the schools. There will be 3 main foreign English teachers working for this program.

The Busan MOE have a special bus that has been converted into an English learning center. This English bus will be going from school to school bringing the English learning directly to the students. 1 or 2 foreign teachers will be entering the school to teach in a classroom, while the other foreign teacher will stay on the bus and the students will come on the bus to learn. The foreign teachers can take turns teaching in both environments.

There are 4 different learning zones that the students rotate through in this English Bus program.

-The Talk Zone – this is a multimedia zone, where learning English through technology is emphasized. The foreign teacher will be teaching students English through computers, TVs, and the Internet. Students in this zone will be learning basic daily expressions and can have simple online conversations through a messaging program.

- The Art Zone – this part of the program will be taught by the Korean English teacher and if needed the foreign English teacher will assist. This zone is where students are learning new vocabulary and practicing their ability to follow instructions. Some sample activities include: face painting, origami, kirigami and coloring/drawing pictures.

-The World Zone – students in this zone will learn about some simple vocabulary associated with different cultures around the world. There is a big magnetic map of the world with many magnet pieces. Students will learn about the new vocabulary through flashcards, then practice their knowledge by following instructions to choose the right magnet to place on the appropriate spot on the map.

- The Story Zone – the foreign teachers will be doing storytelling and role playing with students in this zone. There will also be simple storybooks that students can choose to read on their own and the foreign teacher will then help guide the students through the book.

This is an amazing opportunity for a teacher who is looking to expand his/her teaching repertoire. This program is a useful and engaging way for students to learn beyond the typical classroom environment. This is a great chance for teachers to gain new ideas and become more creative in how they present English to students. This program has been very successful so far and students love it when the Magic English bus drives up to their school for the day. If you think you’re the right fit for this job, then please don’t hesitate to apply!

Applicants must have 1 of the following qualifications in order to apply:
- A Bachelors or Masters degree in any discipline AND:
• 1 year full time teaching English teaching experience OR
• a TEFL/CELTA certificate with some teaching experience OR
• a teaching certificate with some teaching experience
