08-17-2008 9:46 pm | RE: Where to visit in Korea? OK - thanks NOT for anyone's suggestions. Been doing it on my own thanks. If you have any input let me know. I went to Soraksan and stayed at the Kensington. TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT FOR EVERYONE!!! Not cheap but definitely nice! For those looking to see the "Korean Alps" on a budget, there are LOADS of cheap places to stay and you can get lost on the mountain hikes here. There really are mountains here. The hiker garb is actually worn for reason instead of getting kitted out for a 15 minute jaunt up the hill behind the apartment in Seoul... those of you who have hit the "mountains" here will know what I am talking about... heck, those of you who have riden the subway on the weekend know what I am talking about... why do Korean hikers put on the spikes and Everest gear to climb Surisan? I jog up that hill for coffee? Soraksan is the real deal kids. Come for fun, you'll need more than a weekend if you want to do it right.
[ Been to Gyeongju already and loved it, any suggestions where I should go for my next weekend trip? ]
