Td is a vaccine for tetanus and diphtheria for people over the age of 7. (The small d stands for a smaller dosage of diphtheria than given to infants.) :)

Hey, I live in Korea right now and I have great medical insurance through my job. There is a clinic near my apt. and I've gone there before for immunizations. Do you think I can do the medical exam, tests and immunizations in Korea?

Thanks all,
David

Hi David,

You can do the medical check in Korea as long as it is according to the form you have received and in English. Please give yourself plenty of time in case some report is missing or if you need to correct something; make sure you give us and the employer enough time to review your med check before your departure and make necessary adjustments.

After the extensive reading and continued reading of this information provided by Footprints, you can have your medical check done in Georgia for around $40US once you arrive. That's much cheaper then paying out of pocket in the United States! I am a Canadian citizen and although we have a socialized medical program I'm still going to go with the Footprint's Recruiters advice and get the medical check done in Georgia if I'm selected to teach over there. I hope that I might have been some help even though I haven't gone through the process myself as of yet!

I'm doing it in Georgia too.
If I did it here with all the shots it would cost me about $500-600.

I have mildly elevated blood pressure, controlled by medication. I wouldn't fail the test would I?

I'd do it at home to be sure. But I was told at the doctor's office that my blood pressure was a bit high. I'm here now. =) Just be honest and I doubt there will be a problem.

Is there a female doctor for women's physical examinations in Georgia? Also, I assume that a pelvic and breast exams are NOT a part of the physical examination.

The Medical Checks aren't quite "physical examinations" - they draw blood - which is tested for drugs and diseases - and ask you questions about your health and medical history. When I went they didn't even check my blood pressure, IIRC. Again, the real point of the screening is to make sure we're not drug users and we're not bringing STDs into the country.

That said, the doctor who took my blood was female; the doctor who asked me about my overall health was male; if you need specifically to talk to a female doctor, that is easily arranged.

I absolutely HATE needles. I'm confused on exactly what the directions are referring to on 'immunizations.' -- I have received my immunizations for grade school but haven't gotten any since after I turned 18. I have a immunization record that dates back to the early 90s. What shots do I exactly need? I hate needles ugghhhh
