Hot Air - Look Who's Talking

Are you the type of teacher that does most of the talking? Have you thought about what kind of teacher you are? Self-evaluation is difficult but it is the best way to improve.

Many teachers forget that learning is often a personal process and that the students themselves are often the best teachers and as learners they are the ones that need to teach themselves if they wish to retain the material.

A teacher's job is to be a facilitator. Involve the stundets in their learning and make them interested in the subject. Make their learning come alive and still remain in control.

Give students clear instructions and direction and then let them find their way. Walk around the classroom and help those who need it, encourage those that need it and quiet those that need it. Let the students check their own papers and use this as a review opportunity. Give them projects and make sure it is relevant and interesting and you will find that your role will change from DISCIPLINARIAN to facilitator and teacher.
