Online TEFL Certification

Everyday we get an email or a phone call from a teacher asking what online TEFL course he or she should take.  In an effort to try to simplify this for teachers we have done some research for you and provided you with a couple recommended programs below.  There are some really important considerations here before you move forward:

  1. not all programs are created equal - the programs we are recommending below are recognized by most of our employers.  Not all schools will accept this however.
  2. getting TEFL certification is not the equivalent of getting a degree.  If the country you wish to teach in requires a degree, you need to get a 3 or 4 year degree to be eligible for the visa.  These are requirements that are often set forth by the Ministry of Justice and Immigration of the country.
  3. it is best to take an in-person course and ensure that the course is over 100 hours (120+ is best)
  4. look at the requirements of the country/countries that you want to teach in before you sign up for a course.  Some countries only accept CELTA as an example and you should know that before you take a course that won't be relevant.
The following are Online TEFL Courses that are good and reputable.  They have strong recognitions internationally.  It should be noted though that Footprints is not the course provider.  We have established relationships with the following organizations in an effort to refer you to good online TEFL programs and to get discounts on these courses for you.
