Tomieca Johnson is an American coming up on her third anniversary in Taiwan through a Footprints placement and she is, again, looking into some of our alumni opportunities in order to continue her time there. During her time in Taiwan she has not only embraced teaching but also her musical talents as a member of the Boogie Chillin’ band.

Influenced by classic Blues greats such as Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Elmore James, and Willie Dixon, Boogie Chillin’ also steps it up with contemporary blues artists such as Canada’s Big Sugar. Boogie Chillin’ always fires up the crowd and brings a modern twist to classic blues music.
Accomplished musicians in their home countries (the US and Canada), Randy, Jimmy, Kevin, Will, Hank, and Tomieca have taken Taiwan by ‘storm.’ Celebrating the blues, Boogie Chillin’ always ‘fires up the crowd ‘packing ‘the house’; Boogie Chillin’ leaves the crowd dancing, grooving, shaking, and wanting more… Their hard driving blues beat, combined with a classic blues sound, can be heard ‘firing up’ audiences around Taiwan, including in Kenting, Taichung, Chung-li, and of course, Taipei.
Will brings to Boogie Chillin’ a ripping guitar sound the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, and Big Sugar; he is perhaps Taiwan’s greatest guitarist on the scene today; his vocals exude emotion and energy – what the blues is all about!
Kevin, also from Canada, is well known on the Taiwan circuit for the incredible blues tone that comes from his saxophone, keyboard and vocals. He compliments Boogie Chillin’ with a classic blues feel that the fans love and adore!
Jimmy, also a Canadian, has been a part of Taiwan’s music scene for the past several years and is also an accomplished musician on the Taiwan circuit. His pumping bass brings a classic blues feel and style to the band the fans can’t resist, a feel that gets you tapping, stomping, and moving your feet.
Hank comes to us from New York City where he blew his harp in all the major blues clubs, as well as doing some studio work, including for MTV. His sweet, emotional, and sometimes ‘biting’ harp brings a new dimension to the local music scene. He has also been a part of Taiwan’s music scene for the past several years.
Randy, from Columbus, Ohio, is an incredible rock and blues drummer. His amazing sense of time, rhythm and feel flow through his drum sticks giving the band it’s great groove. This, combined with his solid endless energy, helps create a sound fans love, one they will always remember.
Tomieca , Boogie Chillin's lead vocalist, has an angelic voice which captivates and intoxicates audiences. Coming from Louisiana, and a long line of professional musicians and singers in her family, her gospel/soulful/bluesy voice is filled with passion and emotion. While she's a new and incredible addition to the Taiwan music scene, she brings with her the unique experience of singing in church gospel choirs as a child. Her family members are very involved in the church, and one of her uncles is a professional blues singer on the circuit in the US today.
Boogie Chillin’ is one of Taiwan’s top performing bands, today. With a combination of over 90 years of musical experience between the members, their unique style and flair make them one of the most dynamic, exciting, and fun bands to experience.

“I recently returned from my first year in Korea. I spent it in Jeonju where the foreign community is very close and open to all new people. Footprints made the journey so easy, especially their step-by-step guide to getting all paper work done properly the first time! I was placed with/chose a decent school where the teachers and students were great. I occasionally had troubles, but it was not Footprints fault, but a cultural difference and I had to learn to change my thinking to better negotiate my needs. No journey is a walk in the park, but Footprints made the difficult and stressful parts more bearable. I am glad I went with them, and if or when I go back, I would like to be represented by Footprints!”
