Katrina has recently filled a Footprints alumni placement in Ghana, Africa.
Before I came to Africa, I was teaching in Korea through Footprints Recruiting. I knew that after I finished my contract I wanted to have another adventure so I started looking on their website. Since I am a Footprints alumnus, I checked out some of the positions available to me and found the CCEP (Cross-Cultural-Educational-Program) in Ghana, Africa. After reading about it I emailed Ben and he forwarded me the contact information.
For the next couple months I emailed back and forth with the director of CCEP finding out more information about the program and eventually applying for a position. They were very helpful and more than happy to answer any questions or concerns that I had. I applied for my visa, got the appropriate shots and my plane ticket then was off to Ghana.
From the moment I arrived CCEP was extremely helpful and took great care of me. They helped me adjust to African culture as well as show me around the city of Accra. They already had a position for me at a school and I moved there shortly after arriving. I am teaching at a boarding school and I live on the campus in my own fully furnished apartment. Once again Ghanaian hospitality is excellent and those at the school are no different. They make sure that anything I need they give me or help me find it.

I teach around 25 hours a week. I teach English to the lower primary level students. Specifically I teach: Language (Grammar), Reading and Comprehension, Conversation, Dictation/Spelling, and Writing. I have plenty of planning time, resources and a great staff to answer any questions or to help me out. I teach either 30 minute classes or a 1 hour block of classes.
So far my experience has been excellent. The people and staff here have made me feel very welcome and a part of their life. It is great living on campus because I don't have to worry about commuting. I also get to learn and experience more intensively what life is like in Africa.

“I recently returned from my first year in Korea. I spent it in Jeonju where the foreign community is very close and open to all new people. Footprints made the journey so easy, especially their step-by-step guide to getting all paper work done properly the first time! I was placed with/chose a decent school where the teachers and students were great. I occasionally had troubles, but it was not Footprints fault, but a cultural difference and I had to learn to change my thinking to better negotiate my needs. No journey is a walk in the park, but Footprints made the difficult and stressful parts more bearable. I am glad I went with them, and if or when I go back, I would like to be represented by Footprints!”
