Hosa Thomas started teaching through Footprints in 2005 in Wuxi, China. He ended up in one of our newer programs at the time – a partnership between the British Columbia Institute of Technology (B.C.I.T.) and the Chinese government. He excelled with them and signed on for another year with B.C.I.T. China in 2006.
What now? Hosa has just arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He is one of our Alumni has taken advantage of this particular opportunity. We are proud to be working with Hosa for the third time and admire his ability to put together a multicultural punk band in China and to write extraordinarily well written, run-on sentences! Nice work Hosa!
In his own words...
It’s Ho Chi Minh City now. Though the days when it was Saigon are long gone, the shadows of the colonial period can still be seen in the architecture here, around the shipyard, and in the large trees, planted long ago, lining the streets that have become rivers that we slosh through, I on the back of a motorcycle, obverting my face from the large drops of rain that sting me through the thin plastic poncho and thinking back to this morning’s class in which I couldn’t understand the students and I don’t know how much they understood me and feeling a bit burned by some of the complaints that I ask them to do too much speaking and not enough pronunciation drills and vocabulary lists and remembering the loves I’ve left behind as I overt my face from this pelting, torrential rain and head toward some small restaurant to eat some new dish whose ingredients I don’t want to know and whose flavor is wonderful and I laugh out loud because this is it. I’m living my dream.

“Footprints Recruiting provided me with generous support in securing teaching employment in Taiwan. As a new comer to Taichung, Taiwan, Footprints staff were very accommodating in aiding my transition between Aussie living to Taiwanese living! The organization provided advice and support, and offered a position that suited me. Footprints also helped by providing support with travel/visa logistics, which was a great help. There is enough to think about when packing off to a new country, let alone what happens when you arrive. I was picked up at the airport and taken to a school which has great resources. I am pleased to have worked with Footprints.
