It started off simply as an activity to take the English Club to a viewing of the television show "English Cafe" but other plans were brewing. About two weeks after my initial contact with EBS (English Broadcasting System) I received a telephone call from one of the writers of the program and she wished to meet me in person to discuss the option of appearing on television along with the students. At first I thought it was a joke! However it soon became apparent that things were shaping up quite differently.
The writer wanted me and a student to be involved with the on-air personalities. This meant that the two of us would actually be in speaking roles on the program. The other students would either be the "audience" members-- who would also make a brief television appearance--or two of them would be chosen to do little skits with the on-air personalities (Lisa and Issac).
The taping occurred on November 6th and we recorded two episodes which would air on national television December 8th and 9th on EBS. (As I writing this the program will air later this evening.) All I have to say is WOW! What an experience! I think to myself "all I wanted was to take the students down for a little fun ... and we end up going on television." My first thought about all of this: how this will make the school look as we are representing Bucheon Girls High School? I'm sure we will do quite well because of it. I feel quite honoured to have played such a role in school life.
The taping of the program was quite relaxed and the atmosphere was certainly different than what I had expected. We made mistakes but kept rolling the film. I'm sure those things will be edited out later. The Station provided a free lunch for us which was pretty good actually. After about a hour of shooting in the afternoon we finally finished up and had a chance to take lots of pictures.
It was a fantastic experience and one that I will not soon forget!
