Festivals

The country of Georgia is located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe and Georgian culture has evolved over thousands of years.  Georgians are renowned for their love of music and dance.

Georgians love anything that is related to feasts and festivals. For instance, Georgian men are proud to show their unique talent for drinking: by balancing two elaborate, hand-carved funnels on top of each other, pouring wine into the top funnel, and drinking from the other end. Men, women, and especially the kids like to put on ceremonial costumes and dance to traditional folk music. You will often see lines of colorfully-dressed figures spinning and leaping at festivals.

A large part of Georgian culture is hospitality. Georgians like to say: “We meet our friends with the [wine] bowl, and our enemies with the sword.” Regardless of where you have traveled, you will be hard-pressed to find a more hospitable people. As their guest and their friend, you will experience Georgian hospitality to the full.
