Mobile phones

Upon arrival in Georgia he employer gives all volunteers cell phones with an individual phone number. It is a corporate number. The phone is connected to GEOCELL system, which is a local GSM operator. You will get a basic phone and sim card. You can call the teaching program coordinators and other volunteers for free.

Every teacher receives a phone and a list of the numbers of other teachers and support staff.  SMS costs about .05 GEL.  Making international phone calls with Geocell cost 70 tetri/minute.  For further information about the GEOCELL services, please visit http://www.geocell.ge/en/

Geocell is primarily a phone provider. Its high-speed internet option is relatively limited. If you’re interested in mobile internet for traveling in Georgia, this is the service our teachers recommend: http://www.magtifix.ge/?L=eng&act=home&id=&pid=1

If you have an iPhone or a smartPhone or Blackberry you could use them in Georgia. Please find out more about this on our Georgia forum.

Teachers must return the phones to the employer at the end of their teaching term.
