TOP (185) :: Teachers in Korea (83)
| Lisa Hi all!
Thank you so much Carmen, Ben, Andrea, and everyone else who has helped me get this public school position in Gangwondo, Korea. You have been there every step of the way and answered all my questions with a cheerful voice. You can be sure to count on someone at footprints, even if you face obstacles along the way.
I can't believe one month just flew past. I've been so busy enjoying the company of my fellow teachers and friends that I have put learning to cook Korean food on hold. Everyone is very respectful here in the Jeongseon county where I'm teaching, epsecially if they know you are a teacher. I've never been denied any help from the locals, even though there is a language barrier at times. Even then, the locals are very happy to see you make an effort to speak in Korean, even if you know only a phrase or two.
There is not one teacher in my main school who has not offered me a hand at doing something. I enjoy teaching at multiple schools (because I'm in a small town), and having the opportunity to meet most of the children living in my town.
Even though I live in a small town, everything is close at hand. The 24 hour convenience store has pretty much everything you need and is only a one minute walk from my home. There are many restaurants to choose from. The toilets are very clean! Usually if you are a foreign teacher, you get a discount when you go to the fitness center or ski resort! Buses are punctual. The food is very healthy AND tasty. Vegetarians, it's you'd rejoice at the variety of vegetable dishes available here (many of which are refillable side dishes).
Well, these are only some of the many reasons why I'm pleased to stay here in Korea. You'll discover many more on your own, I'm sure!
Kon bae! (Clink glasses) Cheers!
