Bringing Children to Teach in Brunei

Living abroad with your family is an amazing immersion experience.  It is an opportunity to open your child's eyes to the world, perhaps to a new language, to a different culture and a host of other benefits.

That being said, there are challenges when considering teaching abroad with kids.  Have you considered:

  • for single parents, who takes care of the kids while you are working
  • what happens with their education
  • what about language barriers
  • what about inoculations
  • what about socialization factors
  • what if they hate it
  • what about family back home

Education Allowances for Dependents in Brunei

Footprints offers fantastic opportunities for families to experience Brunei.  With allowances for dependents and spouses this is a great teaching position to consider.

One of our clients in Brunei offers the following:

Benefits for Dependents of Teachers:

A dependent child will receive B$150 a month. Where a teacher has school aged children, the dependent child allowance is paid only until the child enters primary school (reception or equivalent) or if the client is not paying any Education Allowances for a school aged child (e.g. a 3rd child). The 3rd child allowance will continue to be paid during a child’s education, provided that the child and the other siblings are studying at a school in Brunei.

Getting a Nanny

Getting a nanny or an amah in Brunei is getting to be rather expensive and there is a shortage of Amahs.toddler-bike

For single parents, during the orientation period, the client can get someone to keep an eye on your children. We have a few spouses of our existing teachers who help new teachers with babysitting while they are busy with the OC. After the OC period, we can’t guarantee someone will be available i.e. an amah with her own quota.
